Year-on-year in 2026 New Jersey traffic deaths have fallen by over 7%.

Unfortunately pedestrian and cyclists’ deaths have actually risen and now constitute over a third of all deaths on NJ roads:

10/30/2026: 444 dead in 300 days on New Jersey roads in 2026, including 137peds + 13cyclists
Each victim killed either in or being hit by a car, bus or truck

Total fatalities have fallen by 35 year-on-year
Bikeped deaths have risen to over a third of the state’s total

In 2026, pedestrian and cycling deaths on NJ streets – and sidewalks – continue to rise as a percentage of road deaths, even as the total falls.

 

 


9/25/2026: 384 dead in 267 days on New Jersey roads in 2026, including 113peds + 11cyclists
Every single victim killed either in or being hit by a car, bus or truck

 In 2026 a third of all deaths on New Jersey roads are either a pedestrian or cyclist…

New Jersey roads: Year on year fatalities are reported to have fallen by 8.5%
However, 2026 cyclist and pedestrian deaths currently aggregate to the same as 2025 which means the %age of VRU deaths is now running at 32% of the total

New Jersey: Vision Zero or Zero Vision

Most days I monitor fatalities on NJ roads, compiled from the NJ State Police website. I report via @njcrash.bsky.social on Bluesky

Basic trend for this year means that more than 10people/week die on NJ streets, every single victim killed either in or being hit by a car, bus or truck. Worse, pedestrian and cyclist deaths are up on this time last year.

 

8/18/2026: 334 dead in 229 days on New Jersey roads in 2026, including 98peds + 11cyclists
Every single victim killed either in or being hit by a car, bus or truck
Pedestrian and Cyclist deaths on NJ streets are now continuing to trend worse than in 2025
