The Road To Hell…

I took a stroll to see how the council’s much heralded safety project at the skewed intersection Bridge St and Drs James Parker Blvd is progressing – more on this another day…

However, given the town’s long list of cycling and pedestrian safety awards, it wasn’t a great surprise to see how the only bike lanes in Red Bank are fairing…

Heading south on Bridge St, the town's only designated bike lane has faded to a badly worn sharrow. Meanwhile at the top of the street cyclists will be banned from making a left turn towards the lane's natural destination, the Count Basie Fields

Vision Zero or Zero Vision?

Year-on-year in 2026 New Jersey traffic deaths have fallen by over 7%.

Unfortunately pedestrian and cyclists’ deaths have actually risen and now constitute over a third of all deaths on NJ roads:

10/30/2026: 444 dead in 300 days on New Jersey roads in 2026, including 137peds + 13cyclists
Each victim killed either in or being hit by a car, bus or truck

Total fatalities have fallen by 35 year-on-year
Bikeped deaths have risen to over a third of the state’s total

Planning and Zoning Inaction in Red Bank.

Just strolled by the new One Globe Court on one of Red Bank’s more historic streets.

Once again concerned about the safety of this largely wooden building and also when apartments are going to be on sale. Given the glut of “luxury apartments” in the town I suppose a delay is inevitable.

But my main concern today is the encroachment beyond the property line and immediately up to the sidewalk which is also compromised by an overhang and the massive utility poles set in the sidewalk which must surely reduce its specification below Complete Streets and ADA requirements.

One Globe Ct, August 2026, sidewalk security measures looking rather battered and well… unsafe…

The Planning/Zoning boards approval of this development was a travesty. Yes, I attended all the meetings and listened to all the reports, even the “traffic engineer’s” rather imaginative submission…

One Globe Court September 2025… Don’t mention cladding, fire resistance or utility overload…

Red Bank heritage “ghost signage” ground up without record under One Globe Court – June 2024

Where The Car Is The Star…

Say what you like about bicycle and pedestrian safety; safe crosswalks, bike lanes, helmets, high viz, walkability, Complete Streets, etc., these are merely sinecures imposed on us by murderous drivers.

It does not change the fact that greatest perpetrator of deaths and serious injuries on the roads are the drivers of motor vehicles; cars, trucks, buses, etc.

The recent hysteria over bike and ebike regulation is infuriating, dumb, and counter-productive.

Red Bank NJ Hits the Streets…

Suddenly in Red Bank NJ the streets are at the top of the boro’ agenda.

Yes, safety AND parking are trending on local socialmedia.

Whether the town’s recent, poorly compiled bike/pedestrian questionnaire elicits any useful info
other than some people feel “uncomfortable” using crosswalks remains to
be assessed.

redbankgreen.com has been closely following the council’s agenda as usual and this week
looks at car storage … erm, I mean parking… in Red Bank NJ over the
last century or so, forgetting that not one road or street in the town
was built for cars…
